3.1 Phillip Lim - Women's Collection Autumn/Winter 2018/19 in New York (with interview)

Designer: phillip liminspiration: phillip lim continues his journey of adding deepness and emotion to every one of his collections. this time, it’s about nomadism, travel and forgetting boarders. diversity as respect to everyone becomes the main theme of the collection. collection: fluidity and comfort is achieved through big dresses and skirts, which are paired with brocard bombers, revisited military jackets and duffers made from three materials. the clothes have a creased aspect to accentuate the idea of travel, taking on a new dimension with a play on volumes, from loose trousers to big enveloping coats. a scarf is added to a shirt or a dress, and small flowered motifs bring a vintage touch, both folkloric and untouched by time. to note: the heavy and infectious music, with the girls ready to leave on new journeys, see new horizons. it’s a way for the designer associates himself with the different women’s movements, which now more than ever, are topical in the united states. interview with phillip lim: i wanted to really celebrate a common mind-set, communities that celebrate difference, communities that celebrate the most powerful beauty which is humility. it’s about wonders and nomads and people without a home without boundaries, without borders. i think that, not to get political, but i’m an immigrant so it was time to use this platform to say “hey listen, you know the things that you don’t know, the people that you don’t know, the people that don’t look like you, the people who are different colours”, the clothes look like things that you throw away. well maybe we take a moment and appreciate this because when you put it all together it’s quite beautiful and we learn something as human beings. fashion is a platform that we get to celebrate, create, acknowledge beauty, in all forms and we use fashion for this reason and i think with the climate too of “oh our show’s relevant, this and that” i always think they are because i think that in those eight minutes you get to use this platform to say something and make people feel something. my mother used to just collect fabrics, collect scraps of fabrics because there was no money but then she would turn them into a pillow or a blanket or a shirt and stuff like that so it’s really the idea of taking all these remnants and making a dress but never completing the dress because it’s okay maybe. music from the show (for use only in context of the show, under cover of the right to information)
