Zalando is moving upmarket. The German online retailer discretely launched Emeza, a new site dedicated to the sale of luxury brands. A German version of the site is already live, but the official launch is scheduled for March. The information was leaked this weekend by Mail-Men, a mail-order site in Germany.
Emeza draws inspiration from the Premium section of the Zalando site. Currently, the new site only caters for the fairer sex and offers, in addition to clothing, a selection of shoes and accessories. Amongst the brands featured on the site are 7 for All Mankind, Michael Michael Kors, See by Chloé, J Brand and Missoni.
The jump into luxury seems logical given then recent 10 million euro investment from PPR into three young e-commerce companies run by Rocket Internet, the mother-company of Zalando. The three companies are Lamoda in Russia, Dafiti in Latin America and Namshi in the Middle East.
