YouCam Makeup named Google Play “Editors’ Choice”
Perfect Corps.’ makeup try-on app picked up Google Play’s “Editors’ Choice” approval this Wednesday, along with selfie editing app YouCam Perfect, cementing AR and AI technology’s position as a force to be reckoned with in the beauty industry.
The apps have been downloaded 470 million times globally and have racked up over 3.4 million five-star ratings in Google Play between them.
“The honor of ‘Editors’ Choice’ shows that Perfect Corp. delivers the highest quality and the most dynamic beauty AR apps to users who want to enjoy a seamless cosmetics discovery, trial and shopping experience”, said Perfect Corp. CEO Alice Chang in a release, “Our team is committed to pushing the boundaries of AR & AI technology through continued innovation in the beauty tech space.”
It is the second time in three months that YouCam Makeup has received recognition from Google Play, as the app won the platform’s “Best of 2017” award for “Most Innovative App” in December of last year.
The app uses patented AR and AI technologies that incorporate facial recognition, 3D renderings, skin tone analysis, and texture matching to give users a realistic makeup try-on experience, featuring real branded products.
Recent brand partners have included Estée Lauder, Lancôme and Swarovski, and YouCam Makeup also paired up with Maybelline this month for a New York Fashion Week experience allowing users to experiment with beauty looks hot off the catwalk and purchase the related products from within the app.
AR and AI technology are fast becoming indispensable marketing tools in the beauty industry, with a number of brands investing in research and partnerships with existing platforms. Shiseido, for example, acquired AI company Giaran last November, hoping to develop new digital experiences, while Coty tried a streamlined no-app approach this month, launching an in-browser platform for its CoverGirl brand.
Both YouCam Makeup and YouCam Perfect are available to download on Google Play and in the App Store.
