Tommy Hilfiger to stage mega runway show in Milan
Tommy Hilfiger is off to Italy for his next fashion extravaganza. Hilfiger will stage his fourth Tommy X Gigi collaboration with Gigi Hadid in Milan on the last night of the next Milan women’s ready-to-wear season on Sunday, February 25, 2018.
His upcoming jaunt into Italy follows massive See Now Buy Now shows starring uber model Hadid in London last September, and previously on a Los Angeles beach and a New York pier. Like in the three previous shows, all the runway looks will be immediately available to buy on the web.
“Moving from city to city, in particular to fashion capitals – and having the press there at those times – has been shown to be highly successful for us. The whole business is doing this, but I think we might to do so in a very special way,” said Hilfiger.
Like in the three previous events, the show will be a mix of Gigi x Tommy and the classic Tommy Hilfiger collection. “We have done extremely well with this concept and expect that to continue,” added Hilfiger.
In earlier news today, the fashion house of Tommy Hilfiger announced a 10 percent increase in revenues in the third quarter of 2017 to $1 billion. With the impressive rise driven outside of the USA by the positive fallout from partnering with Hadid, which helped ballooned international turnover 16 percent to $609 million.
Hilfiger will take over a Sunday evening 8PM slot that in recent season has been taken by Green Carpet, the ecologically conscious awards ceremony created by activist Livia Firth.
“I think it is fantastic news. It’s a moment of strong energy in Milan, and Tommy Hilfiger will add to that. Tommy has built a great brand and we are very happy to welcome him here,” said Carlo Capasa, CEO of the Camera della Moda, Italian fashion’s governing body, which controls the Milan catwalk schedule.
“They are looking at a large dimension space and we trying to help them. Not quite decided where but very soon,” Capasa added.
Hilfiger has long been a huge fan of Italy; and a keen shopper in the better boutiques of Florence and Milan. This month, his own personal Instagram showed he spent Thanksgiving in Piedmont, enjoying Barolo and hanging out with a master truffle hunter around Alba. Next stop on the Hilfiger bandwagon – Italy’s fashion and design capital Milan.
