Sabyasachi Mukherjee unveils ‘The Curiosity, Art & Antiquity Project’

The designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee has launched ‘The Curiosity, Art & Antiquity Project’, a line of traditional wear that uses antique fabrics intended for the modern bride.

This season, Mukherjee has envisaged a cultured, bohemian bride for his new line, ‘The Curiosity, Art & Antiquity Project’. The line, which is intended to continue to run over multiple seasons, is set apart by its use of old textiles and antiques which are used to make one of a kind garments. The line will be available at the brand’s four Indian flagship stores.

Mukherjee told Vogue India about the line: “This is the start of a new and enduring collection called ‘The Curiosity, Art & Antiquity Project’ that will redefine traditional Indian ensembles. The spirit of the collection is one-of-a-kind bohemian bridal lehengas using antique textiles and obsolete craft techniques. The silhouettes are traditional and the colours, rich and earthy.”

Mukherjee believes that looking to craft techniques of the past is the future of the Indian bride. “It is the emergence of folk stories and regional traditional craft,” opined Mukherjee. “Bridal wear is moving in an earthier, rooted and organic direction. It will now start to consist of elements you would find in a curio shop.”
 
Mukerjee has also mentioned that, while the line takes its inspiration from the past, it also has a modern point of view. Designs could include updated details such as “a cell phone pouch for your lehenga,” explained the designer.
