Sabyasachi Mukherjee launched first ever white wedding collection at Lane Crawford in Hong Kong
As a designer known for his richly hued and heavily embellished traditional wear, Mukherjee is charting new design territory with his first ever white wedding collection. Inspired by the 1920s, the line of wedding wear will retail exclusively at Lane Crawford in Hong Kong and includes wedding dresses, dinner dresses, and veils among other offerings. The garments, although white, are covered in Mukherjee’s signature embellishments and this, coupled with the collection’s simple and modern tailoring, creates a mix of East and West bridal aesthetics.
Mukherjee wrote on social media: “Mrs Joan Burstein, fondly known as Mrs B, was the first person to suggest to me the idea of designing a white wedding collection, way back in 2004… Back then, I had a different set of priorities. I wanted to create a robust business in India, focusing mainly on ethnic Indian clothing. The possibility of straddling both worlds- the East and the West- was logically impossible. But today… I am ready to present the first ever white wedding line by Sabyasachi at Lane Crawford, Hong Kong. So I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs B, wherever you are, for being such an inspiration.”
In November last year, Mukherjee designed his first collection for Hong Kong’s Lane Crawford boutique. The collection was inspired by global travel and was a more western wear orientated take on his classic opulent traditional wear.
