Sabyasachi Mukherjee collaborates with Christian Louboutin for shoe collection
The limited edition capsule collection by Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Christian Louboutin dropped on October 4 and the two designers will go on a world tour to bring the collection to Louboutin’s global boutiques.
Mukherjee said about how he first met Louboutin, “Like some of the best things in life, this was completely unplanned and by chance,” and, after feeling inspired by their mutual creativity, they decided to collaborate. In July 2015, Louboutin designed the shoes for Mukherjee’s annual Mumbai couture show and then in October 2016 he designed a small collection of handbags.
This October sees the launch of a fully fledged collection that is a collaboration between the two designers. The collection is a mix of women’s and men’s styles and heels have the signature Louboutin red sole whilst using saree fabrics from Mukherjee’s own collections. There are almost a dozen women’s shoe styles to choose from including an Avant Gard strappy boot called the “Tall and Deep”. For men, heavily embellished slip on flats mix gentlemanly style with Indian opulence. A handbag called “the Piloutin” takes the collection to a new level of craftsmanship as, designed to look like a precious pillow, it features saree ribbons from Mukherjee’s designs and not an inch of the bag goes unembellished.
Louboutin said about the collection’s use of traditional Indian handiwork: “Indian handicraft is the best of the best in the world. The luxuriance of Indian workmanship is at the maximum. I would love the world outside India to love it as I do.” Indeed, Louboutin is bringing Indian craftsmanship around the world with him and he joins Mukherjee to bring the made to measure collection to Louboutin boutiques in global metros such as Tokyo, London, Paris, Dubai, and Shanghai.
