Paytm Mall turn to agents to get sellers onboard across India
Online marketplace backed by China’s Alibaba, Paytm Mall, is planning to expand its reach to shopkeepers in tier-II and tier-III cities by hiring agents to cover top 50 cities across the country.
The company currently has 350 agents who are reaching out to shopkeepers. It now intends to add at least another 3,000 people to its workforce to form a network of agents who’ll be able to connect with shopkeepers and put their catalogues online, Paytm said in a statement.
“Our team will onboard trusted merchants and will offer end-to-end support. This will help majority of merchants traditionally selling offline to become a part of mainstream digital ecommerce,” Amit Sinha, chief operating officer at Paytm Mall.
The agent network will enable shopkeepers with the Paytm Mall QR code solution, which consumers can use to scan and browse products before placing an order.
Paytm Mall will use physical distribution, merchant education and on-ground onboarding efforts to inform and educate merchants about enlisting on Paytm Mall through this agent network.
Paytm Mall currently has about 68 million products listed from 140,000 sellers, and a network of 17 fulfilment centres and about 40 courier partners.
Paytm Mall is the revamped version of Paytm’s three-year old online retail business. It was de-merged into a separate entity by the name of Paytm E-Commerce Pvt Ltd last year.
