Marni: licensing agreement for menswear with Staff International
Following an agreement for kidswear, Marni has now signed a licensing agreement for menswear with a subsidiary of OTB, which acquired a majority stake in the Milanese brand in December 2012.
Marni announced in a statement that its menswear, which was previously produced in-house, will now be developed, produced and distributed by Staff International, the manufacturer owned by Renzo Rosso’s fashion group. In January, Marni signed a licensing agreement for its kidswear line with Brave Kid, the OTB-owned company specialized in children’s clothing.
The agreement, which begins with spring/summer 2016, should give a boost to Marni’s men’s line, which will have more resources at its disposal in order to further expand. Launched for spring-summer 2002, Marni’s menswear still only represents a small portion of its sales and hasn’t yet reached its full potential.
In recent seasons, the collection designed by Consuelo Castiglioni has expanded, now constituting a complete ready-to-wear and accessories line (footwear, bags and small leather goods) unveiled in January at a fashion show at Pitti Uomo, which included Marni as a guest of honor. The entirety of the line, from clothing to accessories, will now be produced by Staff International.
In order to give a boost to its expansion plans, last year the fashion house signed a distribution agreement for its menswear collection with Tomorrow London Limited. The latter will retain its role as a sales and distribution agent under the supervision of Staff International.
Marni’s menswear collections are currently distributed through 200 multibrand locations. The collection is also available in Marni’s monobrand stores in Milan, London, Paris, New York, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong. It will also benefit from more retail space in its new stores in Milan and San Francisco, which should open soon, the fashion house said in a statement.
Staff International produces and distributes many primary lines under license, such as the OTB-owned Maison Margiela and Viktor & Rolf, as well as Dsquared2, Vivienne Westwood, Marc Jacobs Men and Just Cavalli’s secondary line.
