The fashion designer Manish Malhotra has designed the costumes for his muse, the actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, for her upcoming film “Fanney Khan”.

Malhotra has brought his signature style to the costumes and told Vogue India that he was inspired by “everyone from Beyoncé to Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez.” Malhotra explained: “What we took from them was the glitz and glamour but added a touch of reality to it. And if you notice, Aishwarya’s costumes have brought that in.”

Manish Malhotra has run his eponymous label for 13 years but, before that, he mainly worked as a costume designer in Bollywood. Malhotra has continued to work on films from time to time and his latest project is “Fanney Khan”, a remake of the 2000 Belgian comedy “Everybody’s Famous” that follows the journey of an international superstar, Baby Singh.

Malhotra has designed both the lead’s on stage costumes and off duty looks. The stage costumes are high fashion and feature heavy amounts of sparkle and fringing and the casual ensembles are more high street and include jeans and camo jackets. Malhotra has worked with Rai Bachchan for many years and cites her as his muse. “She’s someone I admire for her work ethic,” said Malhotra.
