Liberty Shoes to add 50 stores every year, eyes Rs 1,000 crore revenue by 2020

Liberty Shoes plans to add around 50 to 100 flagship and franchise stores every year and aims to reach an annual revenue total of Rs 1,000 crore ($150 million) by 2020.

The footwear retailer aims to take its annual revenue from the current total of Rs 600 crore to Rs 1,000 crore by 2020. This fiscal year the business expects between ten and 15 percent growth, which should help it reach this target on time.

Liberty Shoes plans to continue its strategy of opening between 50 and 100 brick-and-mortar stores a year and the brand aims to enter cities where it does not yet have a presence, which will include many non-metro locations.

One of the reasons that the brand is still expanding rapidly offline is because customers shopping for footwear are more likely to want to try items on in-person, compared to other items such as accessories or even clothing.

The brand has expanded from just footwear into men’s accessories, handbags, and shoe care products over time, and plans to keep its portfolio at that for the foreseeable future.

Liberty Shoes’ Executive Director of retail, Anupam Bansal, told Indiaretailing that the brand is looking to strengthen its current product categories and increase reach over the next two to three years.

Liberty Shoes has been retailing for half a century after launching in 1954 and the brand now has over 400 stores, 150 of which are company owned and the rest are franchised.
