The investment is in line with Kitex Garments larger plans of increasing the production capacity from the current six lakh pieces of garments to 22 lakh pieces per day by 2025 to meet increasing demand.

The apparel manufacturing unit is expected to create employment for over 5,000 people in the district of Ganjam in Odisha with Kitex making the proposal through Odishas Single Window for Investor Facilitation and Tracking (GO-SWIFT) portal.

"We are committed to ensuring investor delight and it is highly encouraging to note that within a short span of 8 months, GO-SWIFT has received over 300 proposals from investors across the country," Odisha Industries secretary Sanjeev Chopra was quoted as saying by PTI.

"We will continue to raise the bar for ease of doing business and are focused on speedy implementation of investment proposals on the ground," Chopra said.

Kitex has allocated Rs 2000 on expansion of its manufacturing units to meet its production target and will be setting up apparel manufacturing units in Karnataka or Andhra Pradesh very soon.

Kitex Garments exports about 95 per cent of infant wear to the United States and the rest to Europe. The company also engages in contract manufacturing for private labels such as Jockey, Carter, Babies R Us, Gerber and Mothercare.
