India’s leading e-commerce player is looking to collaborate with large Indian and global brands to expand its base in the IoT devices segment like smart wearables and home solutions.

Flipkart has already partnered with technology giant Google by making its 'Home' and 'Home Mini' voice-activated speakers available online on its platform to customers across in India.

The e-commerce major has already gained a large market share in the country’s wearables category which includes smart watches and fitness bands among many others.

The company claims to have around 50 percent online market share in this category and targeting to sell around 2.5 million units of wearables in the current financial year.

"Home automation category is at a nascent stage in India. For the category to scale up, we need big brands. We are working with brands across these niche categories to bring them to customers in the country, Flipkart Head of Private Labels and Electronics Adarsh Menon was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

"We will work with Google to see how Flipkart's services can be integrated with Google Home. These are work in progress," he said.

"Fundamentally, online share of wearables in India is a whopping 80 per cent and Flipkart commands almost 50 per cent share of this market. We plan to sell around 2.5 million units of wearables between April 2018 to March 2019," Menon added.
