Flipkart sees 100 percent year-on-year growth in children's wear
On April 3, the e-commerce giant Flipkart announced that it is currently witnessing 100 percent growth in its children’s wear section and claims that it has 51 percent of the online market share.
Rishi Vasudev, Flipkart’s Head of Fashion, said in a statement that Flipkart is the leader in the Indian online children’s wear market. "Our market share is at 51 per cent in the online space, making us the leader in the kids fashion space. Our business has seen 100 per cent y-o-y growth and we are confident of continuing the momentum," stated Vasudev.
Flipkart has cited increased demand coming from metros as well as Tier 2 and 3 towns as a reason for its strong performance in the children’s wear market. "Southern India is a large market for us, followed by north India. Other parts of the country are also doing well. The trends are similar to what we see in the overall fashion category," said Vasudev about the distribution of the business’ children’s wear customers.
Vasudev has also mentioned that Flipkart will be launching a private label in the children’s wear section in the near future but no further details have been released yet. Private labels offer higher profit margins for large e-commerce companies and are becoming increasingly popular in online retail.
