Always inspired by the beauty of Sicily, Dolce & Gabbana will pay hommage to the Mediterranean isle this weekend. After couture shows in Portofino and Naples for the two seasons prior, the luxury house -- helmed by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana -- has chosen Palermo this year to present its most prestigious collections, as part of its "Alte artigianalità" (High Craftsmanship) initiative.

The D&G event, which kicked off Thursday night with an opening soiree, will get to the heart of the matter on Friday July 7 with the women's 'Alta Moda' show, followed by the men's 'Alta Sartoria' show on Saturday.

The four days will also be punctuated by a series of high end jewellery presentations, backed up by fine dining at night for show guests. In the north of the city, nestled in the little port of Tonnara Florio, a pop-up store, and a bar and terrace have also been installed to mark the occasion.

The design duo have kept a tight lid on what celebrities will be arriving in Palermo this weekend for the event, leading to rather crazy rumours. Brad Pitt, Robert De Niro, George Clooney and Madonna are just some of the names cited by local press.

"We have 400 international guests coming," cooed the two designers, when talking about the event. "It's a collection dedicated to Palermo. And the event has been organised as way to get to know Sicily and Italy," the pair explained to local media, all the while posting photos and videos illustrating preparations on their social networks.

Far from the noise of haute couture week, Dolce & Gabbana choses to present its women's couture line, dubbed 'Alta Moda' and launched in July 2012, exclusively in Italy.

And with the men's 'Alta Sartoria' collection, founded in July 2014, the project has grown. Each year, it has revealed another symbolic place on the Peninsula, and -- accompanied by lavish parties -- Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana fail to skimp on any luxuries, successfully attracting rich customers and celebrities from the four corners of the globe.
