Denim by Première Vision gets ready for Barcelona

Published
Apr 28, 2014

Denim by Première Vision is holding its first edition in Barcelona on May 21–22, now preferring the Spanish city over Paris. The denim trade fair says one hundred exhibitors are participating, an increase of 5% compared to May 2013, hailing from twenty countries.

Forty-five percent of the shows exhibitor list are mills versus 23 percent manufacturers and finishers. The remainder is made up of 22 percent accessories manufacturers and the rest consisting of machinery manufacturers, spinners, textile manufacturers and new technologies.

In terms of nationalities, Turkish businesses account for 31 percent of the exhibitor list, Italians 20%, Morocco 9% and Tunisia 3%. A few exhibitors are also companies from Japan, Indian, Pakistan, Hong Kong and Brazil.

At its May 2013 edition, Denim by Première Vision brought in more than 3,000 visitors (+20%) for the first time. The event was an international success, with 72% of visitors coming from abroad. Such a trend coupled with the show’s waning ties to Paris or even France influenced the organizers' decision to take the show elsewhere. They also knew that the Freyssinet hall in Paris, where the show was previously held, would no longer be available.

In choosing Barcelona and a 19,000-square-meter space in hall 8 of the Fira Barcelona Montjuic, the organizers wanted to play up the fair's party atmosphere that has developed over the past few seasons. The fair's theme is "play the game," which will culminate in an evening event complete with gaming tables.

But besides the challenge of such a major move, Denim by PV will also have to deal with a new player on the denim scene, the invitation-only Kingpins Amsterdam fair taking place earlier in the month from May 7–10. "This fair does not offer the same services as Denim by," stressed Philippe Pasquet, CEO of Première Vision in November 2013.
