Burberry flies high at London Fashion Week

LONDON, Feb 23, 2010 (AFP) - The world of aviation provided the theme for the Burberry Prorsum 2010 autumn-winter collection at London Fashion Week on Tuesday 23 February, while audiences around the world saw the show in groundbreaking 3D. (Watch video at live.burberry.com)

World War I-style sheepskin flying jackets were paired with skinny, fragile skirts in shades of moss green in chiffon-like and shredded materials, while footwear was focused on over-the-thigh leather and lizardskin boots.

Hollywood glamour was provided by Mary-Kate Olsen, Kate Hudson and Kristen Stewart, who all seemed to enjoy designer Christopher Bailey's take on the venerable British label in a 1,000-seat tent in the grounds of the Chelsea College of Art.

"Aviation was the pivotal inspiration for the collection," Bailey said. "There was lots of fabric manipulation and lots of detail."

In what is believed to be a fashion first, the Burberry show was streamed live in 3D on big screens to fashion journalists in Paris, Dubai, Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo.

Amanda Wakeley's collection of capes and leather clothes emblazoned with her trademark psychedelic motifs in chocolate and taupe tones were on show earlier on the fifth day of fashion week.
