Footwear major Bata India is planning massive expansion during the current financial year and will be opening 150 stores across the country.

The company will allocate a budget of Rs 100 crore ($14.6 million) for setting up new stores, rebranding and modernising plants during the fiscal year.
 
“The company plans to add around 100 new retail stores and 50 franchise outlets in the fiscal 2017-18, Bata India. The aim is to take the franchise count to 500 over the next few years, said Sandeep Kataria, Chief Executive Officer, Bata India Limited at the company's 85th annual general meeting.

"Revenue will come from the new and renovated stores. The franchisee stores will mostly cater to the tier-II and tier-III cities," he added.
 
Bata is also looking to enhance the visibility of the brand among the youth and will be improving its store décor and designs to make it more appealing, The company will soon be opening its 'Red Angela' store across India.
 
“Bata has rolled out the 'Red Angela' store concept with a red and white "colour touch format" that is aimed at standardising the Bata brand identity. The first such store opened in Kolkata earlier this year, followed by Delhi,” Kataria said.
 
For the financial year 2017-18, Bata’s net profit was at Rs 224 crore ($32.8 million) while its revenue stood at Rs 2,636 crore ($385.5 million).
 
Bata India is the largest footwear retailer in the country, offering footwear, accessories and bags. It retails in over 1,290 Bata stores, on bata.in and in thousands of multi-brand footwear dealer stores pan-India.
