Balenciaga opens Osaka pop-up

Legendary fashion house Balenciaga is opening a new pop-up location in Osaka. This isn’t the house’s first retail location in Osaka, but this venture will exclusively sell Balenciaga’s newest spotlight handbag – the Bazar Shopping Bag.

The Bazar Shopping bag, designed by Demna Gsvalia, was first presented at the house’s Fall/Winter 2016. The bag, which has since been adopted by many big-name fashion stars, is part of Gvsalia's first accessory line since taking the helm of Balenciaga.

The pop-up shop will house not only the original Fall/Winter iteration of the Bazar Shopping bag, but holiday and resort versions of the bag. Also for sale, pouch and wallet versions of the bag. Notably, Balenciaga has not had an ‘it-bag’ since the Arena handbag, designed by Nicholas Ghesquire over ten years ago.

In the past few years, Balenciaga has been overshadowed by sister rival brands Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci. Kering recently appointed buzzy designer Demna Gsvalia to Balenciaga with the hopes of producing more commercially desired products.

The pop-up shop will take over a portion of the Hankyu department store in Osaka, open from now until the end of December.
