Arvind to increase garment making capacity six-fold in three years

Indian company Arvind will raise by six-fold its garment making capacity from fabric by investing Rs 1,500 crore in three years to meet the rising demand for branded apparel, according to company executive director Kulin Lalbhai. From converting only 10 per cent of its fabrics into garments now, the company plans to take the figure to 60 percent.

The company, which wants to double its textile turnover by 2022 from Rs 6,000 crore at present, will open large factories in Gujarat, Karnataka, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh and between 30,000 and 40,000 jobs will be created in the process. Arvind manufactures Arrow and US Polo Association apparel in India.

The expansion is part of a global trend of selling garments directly to a brand as a full packaged solution rather than selling to an intermediary who converts and then sells to a brand, a top Indian business daily reported quoting Lalbhai.
