Amazon keeps investing in India, pumps in Rs 341 crore into B2B arm

Published
Jul 7, 2017

Global giant Amazon Inc continues to splash the cash on India and has recently infused Rs 341 crore in Amazon Wholesale India, the wholesale B2B arm of Amazon India.

Amazon has gone bullish again on India and investing heavily on all its business verticals in the country amidst tough competition from homegrown e-tailer Flipkart and Alibaba’s Paytm - Reuters

The investment of Rs 341 crore ($56 million) has been made by Amazon Corporate Holdings and Amazon.Com Incs Ltd, according to regulatory filings with the Corporate Affairs Ministry says a report by news agency PTI.

Recently, the Seattle based company’s India funding crossed the $2 billion mark after it invested Rs 1,680 crore ($ 260 million) in its Indian online marketplace business.

Amazon has gone bullish again on India and investing heavily on all its business verticals in the country amidst tough competition from homegrown e-tailer Flipkart and Alibaba’s Paytm.

"We are relentlessly focused on expanding our selection and raising the standard for customer experience and online shopping in India," an Amazon India spokesperson was quoted by PTI as saying.

With Amazon Wholesale India, the vision is to build a place where businesses can come to find and discover virtually anything they want to buy online, the spokesperson added.

Currently Amazon’s B2B website in India is operational only in the southern cities of Bengaluru and Mangalore in Karnataka. Amazon is likely to use a large chunk of the funding to expand this service into other cities to drive growth.

Amazon had entered the B2B segment in India in 2015 with its website AmazonBusiness.in, which caters to only businesses that includes small offices, entrepreneurs, department stores, kirana stores, drug stores, clinics, hospitals, hotels, and restaurants.
