Zalando continues to invest in logistics. The Berlin e-retailer announced the creation of a fourth logistics hub in Germany, a few miles from the French border and not far from Switzerland. It will be located in Lahr, a town that was home to a Canadian military base, closed down in 1994, with a military airport that was converted to handle cargo flights mainly.

The new logistics hub will extend over an area of 18.5 hectares. The investment for Zalando, according to German agency DPA, will be in the region of €100 million.

The hub will chiefly cater for deliveries to France and Switzerland, as well as southern Germany. About 1,000 direct jobs will be created. The hub will be operational for testing from autumn 2016. Zalando already owns three logistics centres in Germany, in Brieselang (25,000 sq m), Erfuhrt (125,000 sq m) and Mönchengladbach (125,000 sq m).
