Under the agreement, Y-3 will produce a full collection of space apparel including flight-suits for future astronauts and pilots, as well as garments worn by the operations and maintenance teams of Virgin Galactic. During the launch, the heads of design for both companies revealed the prototype flight-suit that will be worn by space pilots.

Adam Wells, Head of Design at Virgin Galactic, commented, “Our evolution into a fully-functioning space line presents unprecedented opportunities to create original designs in support of our unique customer experience. Together with the incredibly talented team at Y-3, we will explore the potential to create innovative apparel and accessories – both for our staff and for our pioneering customers – that is appropriately functional and fit-for-purpose, is thoughtfully and elegantly crafted, and is fulfilling and fun to wear and use.

Y-3 is the collaboration between Adidas and Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto. The high-end sportswear collection that has been at the forefront of luxury athleticwear is considered by Virgin Galactic to be the perfect partner for its expertise at advanced fabrics, special techniques and bespoke specifications that ensure fit, comfort and performance.

Adidas released a video featuring Wells and Y-3 Senior Design Director Lawrence Midwood discussing the collaboration, as well as the apparel and footwear in motion.
