The world’s largest coir fair – the India International Coir Fair 2016 (IICF 2016), began today in Tamil Nadu’s textile city of Coimbatore.

Organised by the Coir Board, under ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME), the four-day fair has 95 exhibitors from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra displaying their products.

The exhibition has theme-based pavilions that showcase the recent developments in the sector. These include live demonstration of technologies, production processes, and applications.

Presenting a confluence of manufacturers, exporters, technology providers, machinery manufacturers and importers of coir from around the globe, the attractions at the fair include a buyer-seller meet, seminars, investors meet, exhibitions, and a coir fashion show.

Over 50 buyers from 24 countries are expected to take part in the buyer-seller meet to be held on July 16 and 17.

IICF is an initiative of Coir Board to advance and improve the coir industry, not only in India but also in other countries. The fair is planned with an international perspective for showcasing the world renowned Indian coir products focusing on floor covering, horticultural, erosion control, and wood substitute products, as well as exploring the doors of opportunities for the entrepreneurs who are engaged in this industry.

In fiscal 2015-16, coir product exports from India touched a new peak of Rs 1,091 crore, registering 17 per cent growth in terms of value and 20 per cent in volume. The Board has targeted to double coir production and exports over the next three years.
