Injiri, known for its textiles-focused, paired-down designs, presented a collection of textiles to highlight the artisan craftsmanship of Indian weavers at the recent Xtant festival, the brand announced on Facebook. The brand also collaborated on a film shown at the exhibition titled ‘The Turban Weavers of Bhujodi’ which spotlights weaver Shamji Vankar and his work to keep the tradition alive.

“Trama 2022´s leitmotif was ‘The new narrative’ and the muslin exhibit from Injiri was a perfect fit as it is such a great reminder about how we have lost quality in the race to quantity, that defines success in the current economic model,” said Xtant’s co-founder Kavita Parmar, Vogue India reported. “India has the talent, skill and still surviving craft cultureto be a leader for the new narrative towards quality that the world needs urgently. It is the only way to pivot ourselves out of current crisis, climate and otherwise.”

“I am not in the rhythm of the fashion calendar,” Injiri's founder Chinar Farooqui told Vogue India. “What the artisans can give us– just for the sake of pure beauty and skill, not necessarily caught up in the web of production friendly design, is my selfish goal. “A lot of people want to simplify crafts due to high production costs, but exhibits give us a chance to hone and showcase the highest levels of skill from our country.”

Chinar Farooqui’s brand Injiri retails from around 100 multi-brand stores internationally and on boutique in India, Ensemble. The brand works with artisans in India to create minimalist, understated clothing which is designed to put the spotlight on the textile craft itself.
