Wendell Rodricks to open Moda Goa Museum in December
Designer Wendell Rodricks will now open his upcoming Moda Goa Museum this December in conjunction with Goa’s Serendipity Arts Festival. The museum’s first exhibition will be “Modern Brides of Bollywood”.
Rodricks will unveil his fashion museum project in December 2019 and told the New York Times that his maiden exhibition will be a collection of Bollywood celebrities’ wedding lehengas. Both Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma have promised their wedding lehengas to the exhibition, Rodricks said.
The museum will launch as part of the annual Serendipity Arts Festival in Goa. The festival celebrates the area’s cultural heritage and includes fashion, art, and music events.
Rodricks has collected 800 artefacts for the museum dating from the 7th century to the modern era for display in the museum. Although the main focus is on clothing, the exhibition will also feature statues, furniture, jewellery, and accessories amongst its 16 galleries. The mansion’s swimming pool has also been covered and turned into a saree gallery. A library is under construction and phase two of the project will include creating research facilities.
The museum is being constructed within Rodricks’ 750 square metre Casa Dona Maria heritage building in the Goan village of Colvale. The house dates back to the late 1500s and Rodricks lived in it for 25 years prior to developing it into a museum.
