Welspun India to work again with Target Corporation

Gujarat-based textiles major Welspun India is all set to work with U.S. retail giant Target Corporation again after a gap of almost five years.

Welspun India to work again with Target Corporation

In 2016, Welspun India was accused by U.S. retailer Target Corp of selling cheaper sheets as premium Egyptian cotton for two years, damaging the company's reputation and hurting India's image in quality control.

In 2017, Welspun had entered into a cooperation agreement with Cotton Egypt Association with the latter granting it the right to use the Egyptian Cotton logo after verifying Welspun’s quality and supply chain reliability processes.

With old issues resolved, Welspun is all set to work with Target and expects strong growth going forward from this association. Target Corporation used to contribute around 10 percent to Welspun’s overall business until the financial year 2015-16.

“The company and Target Corporation, a retailer with over 1,900 stores in the U.S., will be working together again, having recently completed a vendor re-empanelment process with Welspun Global Brands Ltd., company's subsidiary,” Welspun India said in a regulatory filing.

“The company shall strive to foster a strong, transparent and sustainable business relationship with Target Corporation going forward,” the company added.

Welspun India is part of the billion-dollar Welspun Group and the country’s leading player in the textile industry.
