The first bridal collection by Waniya features classic styles and colours and is set apart by its use of intricate detail including dori, tila, and sequins. The line’s name is derived from the Urdu words ‘Mehr’ and ‘Nisa’ which mean ‘sun’ and ‘women’ and the phrase describes a loving and beautiful woman.

The line launched with a fashion film and photoshoot starring Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari. The actress dons a classic red bridal outfit, complete with veil, and turns to showcase the collection’s 360 degree embellishments. “Breathing in our rich traditional craft and extravagant silhouette epitomising the heritage of bridal culture, Aditi Rao Hydari revels in an unparalleled charm of kiran, resham and dabka,” the brand announced on Facebook.

“The collection which is a modern restatement of antique styles is extremely close to my heart,” Kardar told Elle India about the launch. “My vision for this collection was to compel the audience to stop and admire the captivating designs that I have created, adding little pieces of my soul to every garment. It was also to give brides an opportunity to curate a diverse wardrobe.”

Waniya also recently launched its latest collection Mizar, a fusion blend of kurtas, blazers, and trousers, featuring graphic large floral patterns rendered in delicate embroidery and bead work. The collection has a fusion feel and makes a bold statement while remaining minimalist in its tailoring.

Mehr Azam Kardar launched Waniya in 2021 after studying at the Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design and Central Saint Martins, London. The brand retails from its e-commerce store and studio in Lahore, Pakistan.
