Walmart opens fifth Best Price Modern Wholesale store in Andhra Pradesh, 28th in India
Walmart has strengthened its presence in Andhra Pradesh and opened its first Best Price Modern Wholesale store in the state in Kurnool marking its 28th store in India.
On December 11, US-based business Walmart opened a cash and carry store for its India business Best Price Modern Wholesale, the business announced in a press release. The store will create at least 2,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, according to Walmart.
The new 50,000 square foot store, which retails a wide range of fast moving consumer goods, aims to cater to small businesses in the area and shoppers can also use a dedicated mobile app to shop the establishment as well as a business-to-business e-commerce platform. The store also features sustainable energy, recycled water, and harvested water and is working to replace single-use plastic with sustainable storage solutions. The store “reiterates Walmart India’s commitment to the state,” said Walmart in a press release.
“As we continue to grow our network of cash and carry stores in the country with a mission to help small businesses prosper, we would like to thank all our members, partners, associates and stakeholders for their overwhelming support and contribution to the success of our business,” said Walmart India’s president and CEO Krish Iyer in a press release. “We continue to strive to better serve our members and explore more opportunities to create shared value as we open our 28th ‘Best Price’ Store in the country.”
Walmart India also recently launched a Supplier Development program which plans to train 50,000 micro, small, and medium enterprises in India. Walmart India is also working to support farmers and small businesses through its sourcing program, said the brand. Wal-Mart India Private Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of US-based business Walmart Inc.
