Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers artisan wins Medallion for Excellence at WorldSkills, Geneva

Subhasis Paul won a Medallion for Excellence in the jewellery category at the recent WorldSkills 2022 event in Geneva, Switzerland. Jewellery artisan Paul works for Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers.

The jewellery segment of the WorldSkills contest involved artisans using gold, other precious metals, and gemstones to create jewellery and accessories and had contestants from around the world. Indian representative Paul scored a total of 708 points and placed sixth in the overall competition, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council reported on its website. 
 
The WorldSkills 2022 international competition concluded on October 16 in Geneva, Switzerland and involved industries ranging from carpentry to engineering. The contest is designed to celebrate talent in vocational skills. 
 
Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers is a South Indian jewellery business which specialises in traditional style gold and diamond jewellery. Paul works for the brand’s Chennai jewellery house. which he joined for training after completing his higher secondary education and the Gem and Jewellery Skill Council of India training programme. 
 
Paul then went on to complete his advanced training and progressed through state, regional, and national competitions to be selected out of three candidates for WorldSkills training, the GJSCI reported. The GJSCI trains representatives for the WorldSkills jewellery competitions in collaboration with its industry partners.
