"We believe collaborating with Virat back in 2017 was the right direction for the brand,” Abhishek Ganguly, Puma India’s managing director, said as reported by TNN. “Success of our collaboration with One8 has lot to do with Virat's popularity. Also, the launch comes at a time when he is at such a pinnacle in his career.”

“Currently, we are planning to double the range of products in this collaboration," said Ganguly. The brand recently launched One8 Select, a range of formal men’s footwear featuring styles such as leather brogues and Chelsea boots. This is a sizeable diversification of products for the athleisure brand.

Kohli, who is the captain of India’s national cricket team, keeps ten percent of the brand’s sales as per his agreement with Puma. TNN has pegged Kohli’s first-year earnings from One* at between Rs 22 crore and Rs 24 crore. Kohli became the first Indian sportsperson to sign an eight-year brand deal with a single brand, Puma. The deal was valued at Rs 110 crore.

"One8 is a brand very close to me and I have been personally involved in the conceptualisation of the line," Kohli told the Times of India. "The vision is to build the brand and go beyond the product to capture a way of life."
