Since its reacquisition of Pro-tec in 2002, Vans has worked to develop the line of the protective gear for boardsports brand. "We have continued the Pro-tec brand’s leadership role in skateboard and BMX protective gear, while expanding the brand’s position in snow sports and mountain biking," said Kevin Bailey, president of Vans, in a statement.

The VF Corp. owned Vans has just announced that it is selling off its Pro-tec brand to California-based Dye Precision, manufacturer of paintball equipment. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Since last year, Dye Precision has also been offering protective equipment and goggles for snowboarding. The acquisition of Pro-tec will strengthen the company’s line.

"The core of our company’s strength is our commitment to innovation in the sports we participate in," said Dave DeHaan, president and CEO of Dye Precision. "We have a strong impact in the snow and paintball and the acquisition of Pro-tec allows us to accelerate our expansion plan in skateboarding, BMX, winter sports and mountain biking. The Pro-tec brand’s 40-year history is well respected within our company. We are excited to continue that rich heritage and to grow the Pro-tec brand to new levels."

It is not yet clear how Pro-tec will be distributed, which was available in 170 countries under Vans' ownership. Dye Precision has offices and factories in Taiwan, England, Germany, Australia, Dubai and Malaysia.
