Their donation will go to aid the new Columbus Covid 2 Hospital, a new area fully dedicated to the Covid-19 cases at Rome’s Agostino Gemelli University Policlinic, according to a release issued by the 87-year old fashion legend. The hospital is the second-largest in Italy with 1,558 beds.

“In such a dramatic moment for the whole world, we wanted to give our contribution to win this crucial battle against this invisible, but terrible enemy,” read a joint release from Garavani and Giammetti. Both partners' hometown is Rome.

“Our deepest gratitude goes to those women and men who are fighting night and day to save human lives in our hospitals. We will never be thankful enough for the love and dedication they are demonstrating in such a dramatic moment,” they added.

The pair join a slew of major Italian fashion houses, including Giorgio Armani, Versace, Prada, Gucci and the house of Valentino – the latter having been founded by the pair in 1960 – in providing major financial support for hospitals and front-line health workers.
