Shadangule’s eponymous brand Vaishali S’ Milan showcase on Friday was a historic moment for Milan Fashion Week as well as the designer herself as Shadangule was the first Indian woman to be invited to participate in the event, Vogue India reported. The runway show mixed textile art with fashion as Shadangule took textiles woven over months in remote craft clusters and tailored them into high fashion garments.

The collection, which means ‘sacrifice’ in Sanskrit, included fusion wear and western wear pieces from coats to gowns. Shadangule used ethically sourced pashmina from Ladakh for the first time as well as wool woven in Maheshwar and Khun textiles with a colour palette of jade, ruby, white, and emerald.

Indian fashion influencer Masoom Minawala closed the show wearing a forest green look with moss-like texture and flowing curved lines. Designer Shadangule also stepped out in a saree of the same hue with contrasting light and heavy weight textiles.

Shadangule had previously showcased a collection internationally at Paris Couture week in July, 2021. The designer’s Milan debut firmly puts her on the map as an international talent. Another way in which Shadangule is expanding her craft on an international forum is by harnessing blockchain technology through QR codes to track the entire life and journey of each garment her brand produces.
