V-mart is a chain of family lifestyle and fashion stores and the business’s main strongholds are northern, eastern, and western India. The chain is promoted by Lalit Agarwal and currently has 150 stores in 126 cities focusing on Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

After the chain opened in 2003 in Admadabad, the main focus of the business has been to further the penetration of organised retail in more rural areas where it is less common. The creation of the Sahyog programme was aimed at furthering this goal and its recent awards show included 500 SMEs that the business sought to further establish in rural areas through the partnership. These SMEs were mostly in the fashion, beauty, and lifestyle sector. Moreover, pushing these SMEs is also part of V-mart’s own expansion into Tier 2 and 3 cities.

Lalit Agarwal lead the event and said: “Sahyog is a collaborative platform which is aimed at fostering closer association with our business associates but more importantly it is aimed at fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship in smaller towns and cities. We are committed to supporting SMEs become efficient business entities and we would do all we can to realise this objective.” Moreover, Agarwal said that the government’s “Make in India” campaign’s success rests on that of small businesses and said that the event was part of the greater initiative.
