The khadi outlets are also expected to generate employment opportunities and income in the state. The outlets will be launched under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

"We will distribute loans totalling Rs 150 crore (approx $21.3 million) to Khadi units, apart from interest waiver certificates to sick units, who had taken loans from financial institutions in the past. The UP Khadi department will also sign a MoU with refinancing agency National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development and Harit Khadi for facilitating marketing of Khadi value-added products," UP MSME and Khadi Minister Satyadev Pachauri was quoted as saying by Business Standard.

"We aim to integrate Khadi with employment creation. Over the past one-and-half-years, we have helped almost 64,000 people gain employment through our various schemes," he added.

The government of Uttar Pradesh had earlier tied up with Amazon India to sell Khadi products online and is also in talks with Flipkart about the same in order to promote the region’s handwoven textiles.

UP will also organise a mega 'Khadi Expo 2018' from December 6-9 in Lucknow to create awareness and promote the fabric in the state.
