The Uttar Pradesh government plans to make the state a textile, and apparel hub and has invited expressions of interest for setting up integrated textile and apparel parks in the area.

Uttar Pradesh’s state government plans to make the area India’s prime garment hub

“The chief minister [Yogi Adityanath] had announced that UP will become India’s textile and apparel hub,” said Uttar Pradesh textiles minister, Sidharth Nath Singh, TNN reported.

“For that, we have come up with a most attractive policy and have invited tenders for it now. This will give a huge boost to apparel exports from UP.”

The state government has suggested Meerut, Agra, Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Lucknow, and Kanpur as preferred locations for the industrial parks, but interested parties may suggest other locations. The government will prioritise park proposals measuring 100 acres or more.

The parks will be designed to help India better compete in the global readymade garment trade with countries such as Vietnam and Bangladesh and to generate employment in the area. As the parks will be used to boost technology in the state’s garment industry, the government has proposed that they include facilities for sericulture, handloom, spinning, weaving, processing, technical textiles, and fashion accessories.

The government is offering developers incentives under the Private Industrial Park Scheme of Industrial Investment and Employment Promotion Policy of 2017 and will reimburse stamp duty and partially reimburse the annual interest on loans taken to purchase land and on loans taken to construct infrastructure.
