Urvashi Joneja shows '60s inspired collection at LFW

Urvashi Joneja presented its winter festive collection on day one of Lakmé Fashion Week with a modern take on the 1960s.

Joneja is known for her bright colour palette and use of geometrical hexagons and bold floral motifs. This season Joneja continued this theme and presented a striking collection that had a decidedly 1960s flavour.

The collection, which mainly consisted of evening wear and day-to-evening wear, featured technicolour satins and printed chiffons. Oversized daisy motifs covered bright suits and dresses and flowers made up of hexagons were printed on saree blouses and tessellated to form the silhouettes of birds. There was a mix of traditional and western wear on the runway and prints were both graphic with multi-coloured zigzags and soft with flocks of birds.

Models had their hair pulled back and no makeup save for an electric blue statement eye. Accessories were minimalistic with just a few chain belts and simple black or nude strappy heels.

Urvashi Joneja launched her eponymous label in 2012 after working in various capacities for designers including Rajesh Pratap Singh, Diesel, Timberland, Amy Butler, Ralph Lauren, and Versace. Joneja studied at New Delhi’s National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and New York’s Parson’s School of Design.

Lakmé Fashion Week is currently running from August 22 to 26 at the St Regis in Mumbai. The fashion week is sponsored by IMG Reliance, Nexa, Nokia, Tencel, and Etihad Airways among others.
