Uniqlo appoints Shantanu as marketing director for India

Japan-based global brand Uniqlo has appointed S Shantanu as the marketing head for the Indian region. Shantanu will be responsible for leading the marketing operations of the brand ahead of its launch In India.

The brand will be entering the Indian market this year with its first exclusive store in the national capital New Delhi. Uniqlo has big plans for the Indian market and will start off with its expansion in the National Capital Region post which it will foray into other metro markets.
 
Shantanu joins Uniqlo from Procter & Gamble where he held several senior positions from 2008. He is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and has14 years of diversified leadership experience in the FMCG space in Asia.

Commenting on his appointment, Shantanu in a LinkedIn post said, “Really excited to share the news that I would be joining Uniqlo to lead its Indian marketing effort. Uniqlo has been one of the biggest global success stories in the last decade and am privileged to be part of it as it expands to one of the biggest untapped markets India.”
 
Uniqlo, which has around 2,000 stores in 19 markets worldwide, had last year announced its plans to enter India after having established itself in markets like the United States, the UK, France, Germany, China, and Canada.
 
The Japanese brand has already set-up its subsidiary Uniqlo India Pvt. Ltd last year for its operations in the country and is expected to start recruiting local talent for its stores in the coming months.
