Under Armour had previously partnered with Amazon and Flipkart’s Myntra to sell a range of its products in India and now the business has set up its own wholly-owned subsidiary to open retail outlets, the brand’s Asia Pacific managing director, Jason Archer, told the Times of India.

“We are investing in Asia Pacific as there are long-term growth opportunities,” Archer told the Times of India. “We have been concentrating in China over the last few years. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be establishing our retail presence in India.”

Under Armour will concentrate on metros for its initial expansion and has appointed Tushar Goculdas as managing director of its Indian operations. Goculdas previously worked for Adidas as Vice President of emerging markets and will bring these skills to his role at Under Armour.

The brand has already begun testing the market by selling a range of its cricket products in Jalandhar. The brand will launch its global range of training and running products when it opens its doors soon.
