Trade shows TheMicam Shanghai and Mipel move up their schedules

Like falling dominoes, the Italian trade shows tumbled over themselves to rework their calendars following the date changes announced by TheMicam at the end of July. The leading Milanese footwear show, which traditionally occurs in March and mid-September, has decided to move its dates forward starting in the second half of 2014. The summer edition will take place from August 31 to September 3, 2014, and the winter edition from February 15 to 18, 2015. Now it’s the turn of the other shows to change their schedules.

Following the decision to move up the dates of its major trade show, organizer Assocalzaturifici, the association of Italian footwear manufacturers, was forced to reconfigure the entire calendar to accommodate its other events. Thus, starting next year, the dates of TheMicam Shanghai will also be brought forward. The Chinese version of the footwear trade show debuted this year in a session from April 9 to 11; it will take place next year from March 26 to 28, 2014.

Even so, the second edition of TheMicam Shanghai, which will showcase the Spring/Summer 2014 collections, will occur as planned from October 11 to 13, 2013, again at the Shanghai Exhibition Center. Presumably the Obuv Mir Koži event, organized by Assocalzaturifici in Moscow following the Milanese edition of TheMicam, will also need to pull its dates forward starting in the second half of 2014.

For its part, Mipel, the international trade show for leather goods and accessories, which takes place at Milan’s new exhibition complex at Rho-Pero on the same dates as TheMicam, just announced that it will coordinate its dates with those of the Italian footwear show. Starting next year with the 106th edition scheduled for the summer 2014, Mipel will move its dates forward, to run from August 31 to September 3, according to a press release from its organizers.

“The other events need to accept the fact that Mipel and Milan aren’t kidding around and have decided to regain their role as the kings of Europe and the world with respect to everything relating to bags and fashion accessories,” declared Mipel president Giorgio Cannara.
