Tommy Hilfiger has partnered with nonprofit Runway of Dreams to create a special collection of adaptive clothing to differently-abled children this fall.

Hilfiger redesigned its in line children's collection with Runway of Dreams so the clothes look the same as the seasonal collection but can be easily worn by children with additional needs and different abilities of getting dressed.

There are 22 pieces in the collection, which are the same as the TH Kids collection. Pieces include denim jackets, dresses, tees, polos and shorts all under $100. Jeans are a key item and are offered in jeggings, skinny and straight leg styles.

In a statement on the company's website, Hilfiger notes, "because every kid deserves a great pair of jeans."

Runway of Dreams founder Mindy Scheier explained the details used and how they address the market. The Hilfiger collection used faux buttons and cuff plackets to conceal a patented magnet closure that helps the children dress and undress more easily.

Runway of Dreams was founded out of the need to help differently-abled children access fashion. Of the 73 million children in the US, one in twenty lives with a disability. The families of these children are faced with spending money and time trying to alter clothing to fit their child's different needs.

Scheier is a trained designer who founded her organization out of trying to help her son wear jeans over his leg braces so he could look like his friends. She said, "I was fortunate enough to meet the [Hilfiger] team at Global Brands Group... The team there introduced me to Gary Sheinbaum, CEO of Tommy Hilfiger Americas, who understood the mission of Runway of Dreams right away. He’s the reason we are here today."

In time for back to school shopping, the Tommy Hilfiger Adaptive Clothing collection is offered at the same price as the TH Kids collection. Prices range from $12 Hilfiger flag logo tees to $70 denim jackets. The collection is available now through the Hilfiger website.
