Womenswear brand Tilla has made a departure from its signature traditional designs and launched new fusion-style collection ‘Raja Rani’, featuring its first custom graphic prints.

Tilla’s new launch, set to retail from stores across India when health and safety regulations allow, sees the brand step into new silhouettes and a fresh design aesthetic, inspired by what it sees as a collective need to relax and have fun. The brand, known for its repurposed vintage and traditional-inspired designs, has interpreted motifs from playing cards on floaty chiffon and satin.

“We felt that fun prints were a much needed break in these trying times, both for us at the studio as well as for our clients at home,” the brand announced on Facebook.

“So here goes- announcing the arrival of our new Pret collection in stores for summer 2021- Raja Rani. Graphic card prints, oversized diamonds and a fresh, sharp palette of vermilion red, ultramarine blue, aqua and indigo, in light cotton and silk. It’s always good to have some fun.”

The collection also features oversized diamond prints taken from playing cards in blue and black and red and pink. Ample loose dresses and tunics feature and notable items include a blue-toned King-print maxi dress and a harlequin-print bubble dress.

Designer Aratrik Dev Varman launched Tilla in 2011 in Ahmedabad and its studio is located in the vicinity of the city’s National Institute of Design, Paldi. The brand, which name means ‘hill’, aims to celebrate Indian handmade textiles and craft techniques, according to its website. Tilla also retails its clothing and textiles from its dedicated e-commerce store and multi-brand boutiques across India.
