The Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI) is opening up to sporting goods distributors. A decision that was made on October 20-21 at the Federation’s last general meeting.

The first is to join will be Foot Locker Europe. From now on, its President and Chief Executive, Lew Kimble, will be a member of the Federation’s Board of Directors.

Founded in the 1960s, FESI - which represents the European sports industry - had thus far welcomed sporting goods manufacturers and sports associations.

"Our organisation seeks to represent the sporting goods sector at all levels within Europe and it was the view of the board that we will be able to do that more effectively with the added input of retailers. There is more overlap between suppliers and retailers than ever before,” said Luca Businaro, president of FESI.

It should also be noted that FESI has appointed Guiherme Athia, Nike’s Public Affairs Officer to the position of Vice-President, and that the new Turkish Federation is also a new member of FESI.
