Tata Neu, Tata Digital’s new ‘super app’, could soon retail goods from non-Tata Group brands as the business aims to meet the shopping demands of all Indians.

“Our aim is to ensure that Tata Neu becomes that super app that meets the demand for every Indian customer,” said the new chairman of Tata Digital and Tata Group chairman N Chandrasekaran in Mumbai on April 14, ET Tech reported. “For that, the offering may come from the Tata stable or from the outside.”

Tata Neu received an “overwhelming” response when it launched to the public a week ago, according to Chandrasekaran. The app was previously only accessible to Tata Group employees who were using to user experience test the app for several months.

As well as potentially welcoming external brands onto the app, which Chandrasekaran mentioned for the first time on Thursday, Tata is preparing to launch its jewellery brands Titan and Tanishq to shop on the app. The launch will come at a time when online fine jewellery sales are rising in India as consumer confidence and interest in e-commerce continues to grow.

Chandrasekaran called the Tata Neu app’s approach to retail ‘brigital’.

“It will play out and manifest itself in many use cases of the Indian consumer by leveraging digital access, offline presence, tech innovation and the human potential available in the country,” he said.
