Tata Cliq plans offline expansion for beauty business

Tata Cliq, the e-commerce platform run by Tata Group, is preparing to open brick-and-mortar stores to sell cosmetics across India. The business aims to tap into the resurgence in popularity of offline retail as shoppers look for experiences and physical stores following the pandemic-led digital boom.

Tata Cliq partnered with Estee Lauder Group earlier this year as it expands its beauty offering - Tata Cliq

“The company thinks that the beauty segment is a scalable business and with a return to work, consumers are preferring store visits instead of shopping digitally,” an anonymous source told ET Tech. “While there is a dedicated app for the segment, Tata Cliq will come up with stores also around the same time.”

Along with its plans to open stores, Tata Cliq is currently in the testing phase for a shopping app dedicated to beauty products, ET Bureau reported. The app is named Tata Cliq Palette and the business plans to expand both the app and its brick-and-mortar store presence in tandem, according to the source. This would tap into the trend for omni-channel retail where shoppers can access online features in-store or order their favourite products online to interact with in person at their nearest outlet.

Tata Cliq’s beauty stores are expected to be multi-brand, small format, and launch in metro locations before subsequently expanding into Tier 2 cities and possible beyond. The stores are also expected to feature a mix of both Indian and international beauty brands.
