Tata Cliq elevates its COO Vikas Purohit to CEO

Tata UniStore Ltd, owner of e-commerce firm Tata Cliq, has elevated its Chief Operating Officer Vikas Purohit to the position of Chief Executive Officer.
 

Vikas will take charge of his new position from July this year and replace current CEO Ashutosh Pandey who has resigned after being with the Tata Group for almost two decades to pursue other professional interests, Tata Cliq said in a statement.
 
The elevation of Purohit comes at a crucial time as Tata Cliq plans to roll out huge discounting initiatives to compete with e-commerce biggies like Flipkart and Amazon.

Tata Cliq began operations in 2016 and reported sales of 12 crore rupees (approx $ 1.8 million) for the 2016/2017 financial year, with a loss of 162 crore rupees (approx $24.4 million). Purohit will have a tough task as he will have to cut down losses at the same time make further inroads into the competitive e-commerce market in India.
 
Purohit had joined Tata Cliq in November 2016 and has vast experience in the e-commerce and fashion retail market.
 
After a two-year stint at Amazon India, Purohit had joined Paytm as a senior vice-president for its payment bank, before quitting in June 2016. Before Amazon, Purohit worked with Tommy Hilfiger, Reliance Brands and Madura Garments for more than 10 years. He is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
