Tarun Tahiliani opens at Park Street, Kolkata

Designer Tarun Tahiliani has opened his first flagship store in Kolkata on Park Street. The 2,200-square-foot store launched with the brand’s spring/summer 2019 collection.

Tarun Tahiliani’s new two storey flagship store in Kolkata sees the designer mix his signature style with a Bengali flavour. The store’s wallpaper matches that of his stores in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad but elements like wooden dado and brass inlay add a local touch. A dramatic staircase links the two levels and the shop almost resembles a stately home. The lower level is dedicated to Tahiliani’s ready-to-wear line and menswear and the first floor is dedicated to bridal and occasion wear.

“Kolkata has always had the most exquisite mix of architecture and a bustling vibe of a metropolis, a city where tradition has been kept alive,” wrote Tahiliani on his social media. “We are very pleased to launch our first Kolkata boutique at Galleria 1910. This seemed like a perfect fit as Kolkata’s first Heritage Manor, transformed into a retail and lifestyle destination. The Galleria 1910 is a heritage building that embodies the history of centuries of Bengal’s cultural legacy and splendor.”

“The collection features a refreshing summer palette of soft neutrals and pastel pink, aqua, mint, ivory, and small hints of jewel tones,” Tahiliani told Vogue India about the collection with which he opined the store. “In terms of fabrics, we used all our classic crinkles, muslins, foils, beautiful cut works and a lot of embroideries, that gives a cool Indo-Egyptian freshness.”
