“I wish to thank you, the Honourable Prime Minister and the Ministry of Industries and Commerce, Government of India for selecting Tamil Nadu for the development of a PM MITRA Park at E Kumaralingapuram, Virudhunagar District,” wrote MK Stalin in a letter to PM Modi, dated March 18, which the minister shared on Facebook. “I am sure that the southern districts of Tamil Nadu will greatly benefit from the development of the park. The State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu, the agency responsible for the development of industrial land and infrastructure in the state already has 1,052 acres of land in its possession and is ready to take up the implementation immediately.”

Stalin is keen to advocate for a partnership between the government and SIPCOT to realise the textile park as partnerships with private businesses have had limited success in the past, according to the minister. Stalin has thus requested that the government grants SIPCOT permission to take on the role of master developer for the PM MITRA Park in Tamil Nadu.

SIPCOT is currently operating 28 industrial parks in Tamil Nadu. These house 2,890 companies and over 3.9 lakh employees.
