On March 30, Ehsaas International announced an appeal on Facebook asking for donations towards its initiative to manufacture personal protective equipment (PPE), masks, and body bags, all of which are in short supply in the nation’s hospitals. The NGO plans to supply 500 PPEs and 3,000 triple layered face masks on a daily basis, sewn by tailors in Srinagar, Kashmir.

The organisation targets a production total of one lakh PPEs per day and currently has a team of 270 skilled and semi-skilled professionals as well as 30 volunteers and 15 technical institutions, it announced on Facebook. The PPE produced by the team is already being distributed in hospitals in Srinagar.

Kashmiri fashion designer and owner of Srinagar’s Hangers boutique, Sadia Mufti, has also pooled her resources to make PPE.

“We presented samples of personal protective equipment to experts in Kashmir Valley hospitals, and they have been approved for mass production,” Mufti told The Dispatch.

“Our triple-layered masks have already been approved.”

Confirmed coronavirus cases in Jammu and Kashmir totalled 48, as of Tuesday morning and the state has seen two deaths.
